The Size of Vinyl Flakes in a Polyurea Resurfacing Project

 In Blog

Polyaspartic, better known as “polyurea with flakes” is an affordable floor coating. It is particularly appreciated for its high resistance and durability.

This flooring has become the most logical, strategic and ideal alternative to epoxy for the both interior and exterior concrete slabs resurfacing. Combining durability and aesthetics, polyurea with flakes is the best option for protecting the concrete of your home, in order to extend its lifetime.

Two choices, two measures

Polyaspartic is applied both indoors and outdoors. The reasons why it stands out from epoxy for exterior application are:

  • Unlike epoxy, polyurea offers long-term stability and resistance to ultraviolet rays.
  • It offers good flexibility and resistance to shocks, as well as to concrete movements due to temperature variations.
  • It has increased resistance to abrasion and scratches.
  • It has a high tolerance to high heat.
  • It resists stains caused by chemicals, including calcium.

  • It is a non-slip system due to its composition.

Now let’s see which size of vinyl flakes should be applied to which surfaces.

Polyurea with ¼ inch vinyl flakes

This size of vinyl flakes is recommended for interior surfaces. The flakes (being on average a quarter of an inch) offer a speckled effect with the various tones that compose it. The size of these flakes is highly suggested for:

  • Garages
  • Bathrooms
  • Basements
  • Interior Commercial Projects

Polyurea with micro-flakes

The average size of micro vinyl flakes is one-sixteenth of an inch. The speckled effect is very subtle, which gives the appearance of a more cohesive finish. Not only do they blend better with exterior facing, but they also provide a greater slip-resistance than regular sized flakes. The size of these flakes is therefore highly recommended for exterior concrete resurfacing project. Here are some examples where we can apply them:

  • Concrete stair treads
  • Sidewalks
  • Concrete patios
  • Concrete balconies
  • Concrete terraces
  • Concrete pool walkways

Not only will you protect your concrete slab from premature aging, but you will offer yourself simplicity in terms of maintenance. Only a broom or a water pressure washer is required to give it a flawless look.
