Our Proven Surface Preparation Process

B.Protek’s concrete preparation method is built on industry best practices, using professional tools and a four-step process:

PREPARING YOUR CONCRETE FLOOR

Preparing Your Concrete Floor for a Flawless Coating

Before installing any new surface—whether it’s a polyaspartic or epoxy system from B.Protek, or an alternative finish like tile, vinyl, or carpet—the concrete must be clean, smooth, and mechanically prepped for adhesion. This critical step ensures:

  • Stronger bond between the concrete and the new coating
  • Reduced risk of bubbles, cracks, or peeling
  • Longer lifespan and improved performance of the floor system
CONCRETE SLAB ASSESSMENT

1. Concrete Slab Assessment

Every project begins with a detailed assessment of the slab’s condition and its environment. We evaluate:

  • Type of space (residential, commercial, industrial)
  • Presence of contaminants or previous coatings (glue, sealers, paint, stucco, etc.)
  • Signs of wear or damage (cracks, holes, scaling, etc.)
  • Concrete moisture levels (moisture testing)
  • Surface hardness of the concrete

This diagnostic step helps our certified franchise partners determine the right tools and repair techniques to use.

2. Mechanical Surface Profiling

To achieve optimal adhesion, we mechanically create a proper surface profile—typically CSP 2 or 3—using commercial-grade equipment:

  • Diamond grinding of large floor areas
  • Edge and detail work (stairs, walls, corners) with handheld grinders
  • Complete dust removal using HEPA vacuum systems designed for concrete dust

Every square inch of concrete is treated to ensure a smooth, clean, and properly textured base.

3. Surface Repairs: A Crucial Step for Coating Success

Damaged or uneven concrete can compromise the performance of any floor coating. Our experienced technicians carry out two essential types of repairs:

a) Surface Patching

Small holes and porous areas are filled with high-performance repair compounds. These are applied with trowels or squeegees and then sanded for a smooth finish.

b) Crack Repair

Cracks are first widened to ensure bonding, then filled with durable crack fillers. The repaired areas are sanded again to restore an even surface.

All repairs are made in accordance with moisture, depth, and drying-time specifications to ensure a solid foundation for resurfacing.

4. Final Cleaning and Quality Control

Before the new coating is applied, we:

  • Vacuum thoroughly to eliminate all dust and residue
  • Perform a final inspection to verify that the surface is smooth, clean, and coating-ready
  • Conduct a final moisture test to confirm the concrete is dry enough for optimal coating adhesion

Summary

Whether you’re planning to resurface with polyaspartic, epoxy, or a concrete sealer, B.Protek Concrete Coatings ensures that your slab is professionally repaired and meticulously prepared. This critical phase sets the stage for a long-lasting, high-performance, and visually flawless result.
